Fourth Grade Observational Watercolor Paintings
Students were asked to collect and press a variety of leaves. Their collection should have a range of shapes, sizes and colors. We began with a careful observational drawing of several leaves. These drawings were then mechanically enlarged and carefully painted as accurately as possible.
Seventh Grade Books
Seventh grade students spent weeks creating books all about themselves. They were required to include pages that were based on their families, their interests and include a self-portrait. Students were strongly encouraged to use a wide variety of materials through out the piece.
Kindergarten Large Letters
Kindergarten students were asked to use the first initial of their first name and create several different styles of that letter. Their favorite letter was then enlarged and painted. We mixed different colors for the inside of the letter and one color for outside the letter. This painting project gave students the opportunity to explore color mixing while learning to set up their work space and develop their painting skills.
Fourth Grade Positive Negative Space Designs
Eric Latimer, one of our new art teachers, had his students create original stencils and then create strong designs with a focus on positive and negative space.
Second Grade Snow People
Alicia Mitchell, Brookline's Visual Arts Coordinator and art teacher at Pierce used the Snow Party by Harriet Ziefert and illustrated by Mark Jones, for inspiration for this second grade clay project. Students learned to make pinch pots, attach them with slip and after they were fired, painted the clay people with watercolor.
The Pierce School All School Art Show
This year for the first time ever, we mounted our first all school art show. There were more than 670 pieces of student art on display for the school community to see and enjoy. It was a terrific evening filled with wonderful art and great music by the 5-6 choral group. The following images are some of what was on display for the show.
