Kindergarten Letter Painting

Picture
Kindergarten students spent weeks creating large letter paintings using the first initial of their first name. The inside of the letter was painted in with colors that the students made. The outside of the letter was painted with one color that the student made. This first painting assignment gives students the opportunity to work on a large scale making many colors. It gives them the responsibility of setting up their work space so they can paint more easily. It also gives students lots of practice in using materials and developing motor skills.

First Grade Flower Prints June 2010

Picture
These wonderful prints began as observational drawings of artificial flowers. We looked carefully at shapes and talked about how shapes touched or overlapped. A series of drawings followed and then one of the drawings was chosen to become a print.  We transferred the drawing to a small foam plate with pencils.  We added lines and textures and then printed the image on colored paper with colored ink. Later students created an image that would answer the question "where do you find flowers?"
